Fox News: ‘Obama’s baby mama’
By Katie Fretland
A Fox News anchor faced backlash recently for characterizing Barack and Michelle Obama’s fist bump as possibly a “terrorist fist jab.” Now during a segment the network has displayed a screen referring to the wife of the presumptive democratic nominee as his “baby mama.”
The screen was displayed beneath a segment in which anchor Megyn Kelly interviewed Michelle Malkin, a conservative blogger. The segment discussed a conservative group’s planned anti-Obama documentary.
“Outraged liberals: Stop picking on Obama’s baby mama!” the screen read.

>Update: Fox addresses baby mama drama: Producer used ‘poor judgment’

Please note that if you click on Terance’s “Was it a Slur?” link, the following quote from one of Michelle Obama’s speeches (via the NYT) comes up:
“Here’s how she introduced him during his Senate victory speech on Nov. 2, 2004:
MICHELLE OBAMA, WIFE OF BARACK OBAMA: My baby’s daddy Barack Obama. Yeah!”
So this type of vernacular is certainly not new to Mrs. O. However, we have learned over the last few years that people (esp. conservatives) must be hyper-sensitive when using ANY type of language, with racial connotations or not, lest they be excoriated for months and run out of town by those in the MSM.

Good point, Missy.
HOWEVER… it was still a stupid thing to put up.

It would just be nice if, every now and then, they could remind themselves that they are reporting the news. I realize that may not seem such a big deal anymore, but it used to be important. These people need to get a clue that they are no longer hip, and should maybe concentrate on spelling and grammar rather than showing us how down with it they are.

True, Laural. So many of the times on FOX, those dumb chyrons completely kill any news and journalistic aspect. Even on the supposedly non-opinion show.
