CNN’s Erica Hill is heating up..

There are plenty of days when I’d love to grab a little power nap in at the office. Today is a perfect example — not exactly a solid night’s sleep chez us last night. This heat wave makes it tough for all of us to sleep because we are without A/C. We do have two air conditioners, but they’re in CT, scheduled to arrive in the City with my parents on Sunday. I thought we’d be fine with some fans until then, despite the rumors of a heat wave. I even said to my husband, “ We’ll be fine. People did this for centuries dressed in wool! Surely we can survive a few days.” That lasted about 24 hours. I don’t care about the people of yesteryear in wool; I care about my overheated brood.

My little guy was up at 4:30am this morning; it was just too hot to sleep. I can’t blame him. Our poor dog Jake – all 75 pounds of him – has never looked so miserable. My husband snuck him into a fountain (shh – don’t tell!) the other night and he was in heaven. Too bad for Jake he had to come back to our apartment sauna after that brief bit of heaven.

Anywho… after that 4:30am wakeup, there wasn’t a lot of sleep to be had. This is a day I’d LOVE to catch a few afternoon zzz’s, though it’s not something I’d do on the clock. For plenty of people, though, on the job naps are part of their daily routine. Of course, not all bosses are behind them.

  1. Does anyone know if Erica and her family JUST moved to NY from CT?? Because it sounds to me like she’s talking about a/c window units! Here I thought big time CNN stars at least had central a/c. Anyway, I guess reading her blog more often might give me the answers I seek. But, CNN’s website isn’t very good at archiving her blogs.. (Or I can’t seem to locate them.)

  2. Terance - Erica recently moved from Atlanta. The way I read her post, she’s borrowing window units from her parents in Connecticut. Or bought them in CT and the ‘rents are delivering them? Perhaps to save on delivery?

  3. Oh, thanks! For some reason I thought Erica already moved from Atlanta a while back.

I did hear she was hosting AC360 on Friday instead of that little “sidekick” action.. So I checked it out on Red Lasso and was rather disappointed the second hour was canned!

  4. The second hour is always canned, alas. It’s too bad they don’t make use of the luxury of a two-hour timeslot to present two hours of news. Oh, sometimes they swap in an environmental story, but it’s pretty much always a repeat of the first hour.

  5. I just mentioned you, Arthur, yesterday on ICN. I stated that I miss our Sunday arguments! Glad to see you resurface.

Anyway, it’s hard to imagine anyone going from a house, anywhere, to a small apt. in NYC, w/o A/C, no less! Yet it sounds like that’s how many of these TV news people, and others, must live.

Let’s hope her parents come through with the A/C!
