is it me, or has Courtney been a bit more serious in her news reading. She seems to be not as giggly or goofy. Thank God. Also, again maybe it is just me, but Rich Richemuth (sp?) seems to get annoyed with the 3 amigos on the couch. It is almost like he’s the dad and they are the kids.
Bizarre!

jz, you may be right about Courtney. I do see some improvement. (for today, at least)
I can’t believe Ainsley is so clueless. Those three were playing a Culture Quz game. The question was, “Who starred in Sparticus?”
Ainsley replied that it was that guy who was married to the beautiful Catherine Zeta Jones!!!!
No, airhead. You are thinking of Michael Douglas. The star of Sparticus was Michael’s father, Kirk Douglas!!
I have tried to give this team a try, but that did it for me. I can only take a few minutes of them.

Well, label me clueless b/c I don’t think I would have known that one either, I am not big on trivia…..
Clayton is getting better, he is becoming more of the leader there, similar to the Steve Doocy role. Though Ainsley and the other guy, no idea what his name is, tend to talk over him and interrupt a lot. I think Clayton is doing well, as well as you can with the other two on the couch with you.

Cella, I tried to find the pic’s at washingtonlife.com but can’t find it. Can you post a link?

jerziegirl, you’re right about them interrupting each other. I tried to listen a little this a.m., but they all seemed to be talking at once. They really need to grow up (although adults do that sort of thing as well).

As a recovering (mostly former) MessNBC viewer, I’ve watched a lot more Fox this last 12-18 months. I’m curious what Missy, Cella, Jerzie & the other enlightened posters here think about a few things…
Is there a dumber bas**rd on the planet than Morton Kondracke? Has he EVER said anything that wasn’t completely obvious, or the current conventional wisdom? All the way back to McLaughlin, I don’t think I’ve ever learned one thing from him.
I liked Eric Burns on Fox News Watch, but I understand that people move on, contracts, etc. But my lord, ED Hill is just awful. She’s obviously stooopid, and as a guy I’m generally resigned to having bimbos on the news, but she is just unctuous.
It’s just one man’s opinion.

I watched F&F for several years with ED Hill, although I didn’t really care for her personality. With that said, this whole solo news anchor “experiment” needs to end! This woman has to be the absolute worst I can recall on all cable channels. Its something about her voice and delivery that is just plain wrong!
Comment by Terance — May 25, 2008 @ 7:05 am
Terance, I happen to like ED, but I can understand if some people don’t. But to call her the worst voice and delivery on all cable channels? You don’t even have to change the channel to see (and hear - oh my poor ears!) Courtney Friel. Is she not as bad, in your estimation, as ED?
At least ED doesn’t sound as if she’s failing in her attempt to read English phonetically written out into whatever her native language must be.
Comment by Freddie FooFoo — May 25, 2008 @ 7:11 am
I was speaking about people that host/anchor at least a one hour block. From my recollection, Ms. Friel only does “news breaks” or sits on a couch while others haul the load. Of course ED and her 15+ years experience in the biz “dwarf” Ms. Friel since she’s teetering on incompetency just reading news breaks. Now, I don’t know if ED Hill is just unhappy with getting booted from F&F and wants to stink the place up or what. Because she really wasn’t that “bad” on F&F and seems completely different now. Perhaps this is just her way of acting serious?? Who knows, but its not working for me.

saad-o,
My opinion of both of the “Beltway Boys” is that they are basically elitist. As are many Americans, I am totally against ILLEGAL immigration, yet Fred and Mort BOTH call anyone against it “racist”, “xenophobic”, etc. Whenever they say that, I always just wish that Fox would hire two illegals from Mexico to do THEIR jobs. Then I wonder what they’d have to say about the matter!
Also, yesterday both Mort and Bill Sammon (sitting in for Barnes) spoke against John Hagee, the protestant preacher in the news as of late who endorses John McCain. Both dumped on Hagee for his “extreme” views. But sorry; Hagee preaches right out of the Bible, and many protestant preachers interpret the events of history the same as did Hagee. But again, Sammon and Kondracke both exhibited a kind of aura that if THEY didn’t believe something, it may not be true. It seems the Beltway Boys (whoever is on at the time) feel that if someone disagrees with them, they must be wrong. If they were going after Islam in this manner, they’d be labeled “religiously intolerant”, but since their going after a teaching of Biblical Christianity (which I feel is redundant, by the way), attacks of this nature are permitted!
As for ED, I think she’s a capable moderator or anchor, and I do think she’s done OK on Fox Newswatch when she’s been on. But she is no replacement for O’Reilly, since she is not confrontational enough in questioning or responding to the guests! If Fox cares about their ratings, they’d continue to put on Laura Ingraham (who they PROMISED was supposed to be permanent guest host), who is not afraid to challenge anyone. People watch the Factor for “back and forth”; not just for intereviews.

Cella& Jerziegirl: I think the real test of this F&F weekend crew is how they handle a breaking news story. Otherwise they are mostly residing over fluff.
saad-o: I don’t believe that ED Hill (or Jon Scott) have been named as permanent host of Fox News Watch. Given all the recent preemptions, the future of the show still appears to be uncertain.
Freddie: Although ED has always been my favorite babe at FNC, I would prefer to have an author/journalist such as an Eric Burns type host Fox News Watch.

Courtney is getting better? Sometime I just sit there and root for her not to flub just one sentence. She can read, can’t she?

saad - o,
I think Mort is probably intelligent, but his day on the stage should be over.
He is no longer alert and sharp-witted. He can hardly get the words out when trying to make a point.
Brit is limiting Mort’s days on Special Report during the last months.
I think he is trying to get younger participants on the election night coverages also. (Megan, Bill, Shep, Martha) That is really an improvement. And Mort is not even on those nights at all. So maybe this problem is working itself out.
I cannot bear E.D. Hill. I just can’t watch anything she does. I thought they were going to phase her out when she was bumped from Fox and Friends.
But she seems entrenched.
