Insiders suggest Katie Couric for Anderson Cooper trade
Katie Couric for Anderson Cooper?

A blockbuster trade of TV superstars was floated Friday by TV insiders as a solution to CBS’s Katie problem.

Cooper, CNN’s prematurely gray prince of cable TV, would replace Couric as the anchor of CBS’s “Evening News.” He already is a contributor to CBS’s “60 Minutes,” they said.

And CNN will eventually need to replace the iconic Larry King, who is 74.

Why not Couric, who remains a marquee talent despite being a $75 million flop for CBS, the insiders said.

“Take Katie off the ‘Evening News,’ let her to do Larry King, and then let Cooper anchor,” one network source said.

Couric, 51, has said only that she was “working hard and having fun” since word broke this week that she was heading for a humiliating exit after just 18 months as anchor.

During her tenure, CBS was mired in third place in the ratings and, as a result, cost the network millions in lost revenue.

Ouch! The Daily Show’s Eviscerating “Documentary” About Fox News

The Daily Show’s John Oliver put togther a stunning smackdown of Fox News on last night’s show, punctuated by some damning clips showing egregious comments from some anchors (John Gibson, natch) and some — gasp! — flip-flopping on certain positions (like, say, executive privilege). Watch as Oliver tries to sneak into Fox HQ dressed as the Statue of Liberty, hosts a pundit shoutfest, and waves many flags. Featuring Rupert Murdoch, Roger Ailes, Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, Neil Cavuto, Chris Wallace, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, George Bush, Bill Hemmer, Megyn Kelly, Jim Pinkerton, Peter Hart, Newt Gingrich and the super-chipper Gretchen Carlson.

Barry Nolan pleads: Give Bill the boot!

CN8’s Barry Nolan says Fox News bigfoot Bill O’Reilly is “a mental case,” and Nolan’s crazy mad that the local Emmy Awards will honor Mr. No Spin Zone at their 31st annual back-slapfest next month.

“I am appalled, just appalled,” Nolan told the Track. “He inflates and constantly mangles the truth . . . and his frequent target is the ‘left-leaning’ media - the ones who do report the news fairly. And those are the same people who will be sitting in the room honoring him.”

Nolan, citing an Indiana University study that claims O’Reilly - a former Channel 7 anchor - calls a person or group a derogatory name once every 6.8 seconds on average, has been busy ringing up local TV types to get their support for his “Rescind O’Reilly” effort. He claims former WBZ anchor Liz Walker is on board.

“I hope people will express their displeasure to the board of governors and they’ll rescind their decision,” he said. “It’s morally unacceptable.”

That’s not happening, said Boston/New England Emmy Awards cheese Tim Egan.

The local awards gurus think O’Reilly’s career is something to be celebrated since he came from the Boston market then made a name for himself nationally with “Inside Edition” and the FOX News Channel.
